We have a young female alpaca who has had a snotty nose for a couple of days. I've cleaned it up and she seems otherwise well, eating, following the others etc. Can't see anything obvious lodged inside. We are watching her closely and will take her temperature this evening and if it's normal plan to try Ivomec in case it's a bott or parasitic nasal fly. She was mated a month ago and we think she's pregnant so would rather hold off medication for a couple of weeks. Has anyone any advice i.e. Ivomec or not, is it safe in early gestation?
If she has a temperature or seems unwell we'll call the vet...he'll probably give antibiotics, is there any antiobiotic that we shouldn't give her?
Any other suggestions..she's normally a healthy alpaca, never any problems with her before?
Thanks, Judi

Thanks for your response Rosie. The alpaca is now fine, her temperature remained normal and her snotty nose lasted just a few days. We think maybe she had something lodged which sneezing has dislodged, anyway, thankfully, alls fine now! Judi
